I'm one of the lucky ones who managed to bag a copy of the Broken Flag 5-LP retrospective recently released by German label Vinyl-on-Demand (and now sold out). I've not had the chance to give it a good listen yet, but once I have, I'll post up my thoughts, reactions etc on this blog. It certainly looks the business, and the enclosed booklet is interesting and informative.
What I wanted to add here is that in this booklet, Gary mentions a new Ramleh album in the works. This is certainly great news for me, as I am an ardent admirer of this band and believe that, in Gary Mundy, we have one of the best guitarists and songwriters that this country has produced over the past couple of decades. Although the group no longer includes Philip Best (who is of course very busy at present with his Whitehouse and Consumer Electronics commitments), the reduction to a trio has not limited Ramleh's power at all, judging from their performance at the No Trend festival last November. As an aside, Anthony di Franco has taken up some vocal duties, which has added another element to the band; I enjoyed Philip's vocals in Ramleh, and have always like the "two lead vocalists" idea that Ramleh (and bands like Kylesa and Neurosis) use.
As they say on the Southern Lord forum, I am truly stoked by the new album news, and hope that this sees the light of day as soon as it is ready to go.
